Sound assignment bank — Nature travelogue
For this second assignment, I decided to focus even more on the sounds of nature than the previous post (especially since that’s the prompt of this one). To do this, I pulled audios of a couple animals we frequently encountered on our trip to Easter Island.
The first animal heard in the track is a rooster. I wanted to include the rooster because back at the Tupa Hotel at Easter Island, there were at least 3 that would roam around on the patio, alongside a few chickens. I remember how they would crow so often, they were constantly interrupting conversations of people hanging out on the benches. I tried to make the crow in the audio seem very abrupt and startling, because that’s what the roosters sounded like in the time we spent at the hotel.
The second animal I wanted to include in this audio was a cow. I have a very specific memory of riding the bus on the way to Rano Raraku, where we encountered numerous cows on the road! They were blocking the entire path, so we had to drive really slowly to get them to move out of the way. I remember the chorus of mooing from them, it was so cool to see so many of them!
The sound of the cow is much deeper in pitch, so you hear its moo slowly get louder until you actually understand that it’s a cow mooing. I didn’t adjust too much from the cow’s audio because it already felt like it was fading into focus and then fading back out after.
This is the nature travelogue! Be sure to stay tuned for the final audio assignment for this unit!
