Reflections in Video — Unit Summary

How to Read a Movie

To start off this unit, I read on How to Read a Movie, an article by Roger Ebert. I reflected on the various points he made in a blog post of mine, which you can find here.

Look, Listen, Analyze

For this exercise, I examined both the camera work and audio in the ending scene of Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights, reviewing the two components independently before elaborating on how they work together. You can find my post on the matter here.

Where do you want to go?

For this last assignment, I made a short video compiled of pictures from the study abroad trip this semester, where I used various transition types to make the video more interesting. You can find this post here.

Closing Thoughts

Over the course of this unit, I learned a lot about the various components that make video intriguing for us to watch. These practices and techniques are ones that I will keep in mind going forward when viewing movies and TV shows in the future.
