What to Do on Easter Island and Santiago, Chile

This post is definitely not meant to work as official guidance for anyone wishing to travel to Chile; however I do have some fun/silly suggestions to make the most out of your time there!

First and foremost, MAKE AN iMOVIE TRAILER! These are such a fun and expressive way to look back on your trip and the fun times you had. Obviously, you need to take many pictures and videos for this, but that’s something you should be doing anyways.

Be sure to try the local food! For our first night on the island, I tried this steak with sunny side up eggs on top, and I’m really glad I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new! Additionally, for all those who have dietary restrictions (like I do), be sure to pack your own food and ALWAYS mention your allergy when ordering at a restaurant. I learned this the hard way. Apparently, Easter Island food is almost always containing soy sauce, which usually has gluten. Even dishes that I didn’t expect were later revealed to have soy sauce, which led to a lot of disappointment for my hungry stomach. I’m glad I packed some of my own food, but looking back I definitely should have gotten more. As a result of this, I spent quite a bit of time sitting at restaurants with no food… but hey, it makes for a great family photo!

Lastly, it’s important to make the most of your experience, which means prioritizing the things that bring you joy! For me, this meant playing around with rocks at Cajón del Maipo, both in and outside of the water. Rocks are things I love to look at, so I absolutely wanted to check out the rocks that came straight from the Andes!

Most importantly, have plenty of fun! It isn’t often that we get to travel to such cool places, so make the most of your time there so you leave with no regrets.
