Hannah waited anxiously for her cue. She had been developing this color changing technology since graduates’ school and now was finally the time to put it on display. This event would be the culmination of all her efforts; the countless hours of studying light, the never-ending prototypes for her invention. Now, the world would finally be able to see and appreciate the sunset without distraction.

Having grown up in the city of Santiago, Chile, Hannah would stand out on the same street every evening of her childhood, proof of her early fascination with the sky. Sunsets specifically became her favorite phenomenon. But throughout her youth, no one seemed to appreciate the sky the way she did. Everyone was too busy hurrying down the crowded streets to their destination, never taking a moment to notice the sky above. But this was all about to change.

Hannah made eye contact with her technical director, Theo, who gave her the okay. She plugged in her creation, and all the distractions faded away. There was an audible gasp from the crowds. Countless people had stopped in place, their heads tilted upwards to marvel at the multicolor sky. A wave of emotion came over Hannah, as she was so happy to finally have her dream realized. She and Theo share an embrace. “It worked!”, they both cheered. Even after they put the color back into the rest of the city, there were groups of people who still stood in place in awe of the sky. Hannah herself stood there with joy, no longer alone in her fascination with the sunset.
